Saying [shortly before he left for the Villa Medici] that he competed for the prix de la Ville de Paris but could not finish in time, mentioning a performance of La damoiselle élue, saying that she is "infinement trop artiste" not to understand that the voices in the Nocturnes "sont purement orchestrales et pour conséquent n'ont de raison d'éxister qu'avec l'orchestre!" and that therefore there can be no question of any kind of arrangement, expressing regret that family matters require him to leave town, declining an invitation, mentioning [Sylvio] Lazzari, etc.
